In this interactive presentation, Peg will highlight the Not Yet approach which focuses on designing and creating a classroom culture that encourages the learning process while accepting setbacks and obstacles as part of that process. The goals of the Not Yet approach is 1) promoting school culture where not yet is an expected part of the learning; 2) demonstrating how productive struggle during daily lessons is part of academic growth, and 3) sharing opportunities that show how students can learn from and reflect on their learning process. In addition, we will share examples of how the Not Yet approach empowers students, normalizes encountering and overcoming obstacles, contextualizes setbacks and obstacles as trial-and-error opportunities, and finally how to graciously accept setbacks and obstacles so students can better themselves. Reproducibles and links will be available to participants.
