Steve Shapiro is a veteran school reimaginer, with over 30 years of K-12 classroom teaching experience, 15 concurrent years as a high school humanities program director, and four years as a district leader of experiential learning. Steve has been a lifelong advocate for high school reform, experiential learning, authentic assessment, project-based learning, student voice, and community partnerships. His career has been marked by a boundless passion for designing and implementing high-impact learning experiences and an infectious enthusiasm for making school more relevant, engaging and empowering for students and teachers alike.

In addition to his K-12 work, Steve has served as a keynote speaker and professional development coach. He has trained aspiring teachers at the Ohio State University, worked on civic education consulting projects with teachers in newly emerging democracies including Poland, Ukraine, and South Africa, and served as a change coach for schools working to transform their learning practices. Steve is also the host of the acclaimed experiential-learning and school reform podcast Experience Matters.
